Course Overview:

This free beginner’s art course provides a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ individuals to explore their creative side. Over six weeks, you’ll experiment with various art materials, develop fundamental techniques, and work on exciting projects. No prior experience is needed!

What to Expect:

• Learn about art materials and techniques through hands-on activities
• Explore drawing, painting, and collage techniques
• Get creative with watercolours, acrylics, and mixed media
• Receive weekly handouts to guide your learning
• Friendly and supportive environment with an experienced instructor

Course Dates & Outline:

The course has a structured outline, but it’s designed with flexibility to adapt to the interests and preferences of the group!

Thursday, 6 March – 2pm to 4pm

Week 1: Introduction to Art Materials & Mixed Media Collage

Get comfortable with various art materials and start your creative journey with a fun collage project.

Thursday,13 March – 2pm to 4pm

Week 2: Drawing Basics—Form, Light, and Shade

Learn how to draw simple objects using light, shade, and perspective to create 3D effects.

Thursday, 20 March – 2pm to 4pm

Week 3: Exploring Colour Theory & Techniques

Discover how to use colour to convey mood and depth, while experimenting with mixing and blending.

Thursday, 27 March – 2pm to 4pm

Week 4: Watercolour Painting Techniques

Dive into watercolours and practice creating landscapes using different brush techniques and colour mixing.

Thursday, 3 April – 2pm to 4pm

Week 5: Acrylic Painting on Canvas

Experiment with acrylics on canvas and apply the skills you’ve learned to a new, vibrant piece.

Thursday, 10 April – 2pm to 4pm

Week 6: Final Project & Review

Bring all your learning together by completing a final piece of your choice, with an optional group review.
