As you know, we published our strategic plan ‘Space for All’ in May. At its heart is our goal to be a centre where LGBTQ+ individuals can discover themselves, their people, place, and passions. To make this happen, we committed to an ambitious set of improvements to the fabric of 105 Capel Street to ensure it is fit for purpose and will become universally accessible in the years to come.
We’re excited to share with you all that the first phase of works is scheduled to commence on Monday, 25 September. This first phase of renovations will see our Café close to the public for two (possibly three) weeks as we replace the windows on the ground floor and install new IT networks, including WiFi throughout the building.
Our information, referral, and signposting service will continue to operate by phone at 01-873-4999 and email at info@outhouse.ie during the work. Unfortunately, we cannot facilitate drop-ins during the renovations, and anyone who needs a face-to-face chat during those weeks will need to email or call to arrange an appointment.
All the latest information on events in the centre can be found on our events page on the website. We will be open for specific events and meetings on the public schedule while the works are ongoing.
To carry out the works, scaffolding will be erected over the front of the building, which blocks the fire escape from the Theatre. This means that the Theatre is unavailable while the works are ongoing. We have done our best to minimise the impact and disruption and our Venue Administrator is working one-on-one with those affected and will manage all of their queries and questions. If you would like to book either the Red Room or Library, please fill in out the Booking Enquiry form
I am sure you have many questions, so we’ve completed some Frequently Asked Questions below to hopefully answer most of them:
FAQ Building Works 2023
- When does the building work start?
Monday 25 September 2023.
- What work is getting done?
The windows on the ground floor are being replaced with sliding sash windows with matching window boxes like the ones in the library and red room.
At the same time, we are also getting the computer network and WiFi upgraded throughout the centre. This will improve the reliability and speed of our internet connections and improve the quality of service to team members, residents, groups, and patrons.
- Why are we doing this building work?
As you know, we published our strategic plan ‘Space for All’ in May. At its heart is our goal to be a centre where LGBTQ+ individuals can discover themselves, their people, place, and passions. To make this happen, we committed to an ambitious set of improvements to the fabric of 105 Capel Street to ensure it is fit for purpose and will become universally accessible in the years to come.
This is the first step (of many) to make 105 Capel Street the true haven for all LGBTQ+ people.
- Is the Café closing?
Yes, the Café has to close for the duration of the renovations.
- How long will the building work go on?
The works are planned for two weeks, but it may extend into three weeks. We will keep our patrons updated via our social channels and website.
- Is the centre still open?
Outhouse will be partially open. Existing events on the schedule will go ahead, but the centre will not be open to the public. Face-to-face meetings will be by appointment only. Contact us by phone at 01-873-4999 or email info@outhouse.ie to make an appointment.
