Hi everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Oisín, my pronouns are he/him and I’m the Chief Executive of Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre. Every couple of months, I record a short video to keep you all updated on the progress of our new strategic plan, Space for All, and the latest happenings in the centre.
First off, a huge thank you to everyone who supported us during Pride season, including Trans Pride and Intersex Pride in July. Your solidarity and participation made these events unforgettable, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the energy and community spirit you brought to the marches.
I was thrilled to unveil our new identity in June, it is more than just a logo; it’s a reflection of who we are and what we stand for. We wanted to create a visual language that celebrates the individual strands within our community while also emphasising the strength that comes from our collective unity. The symbol in our new logo resembles the threads in a quilt, each essential and interconnected, coming together to form a supportive and nurturing environment at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre. We’ve grown and evolved, and our new look captures the vibrancy and inclusivity of Outhouse today.
I’m even more excited to share that our new website has gone live this month. It’s been designed with accessibility in mind, making it easier for you to find information about our services and programmes. We hope it will open more doors for people to access the support they need.
We recently held a team training week, focusing on continuous learning and building deeper awareness around the needs of the communities we serve. A big thank you to Intersex Ireland for their contributions during this week. Your insights and guidance were invaluable, and we look forward to working even more closely in the future.
On that note, we’re delighted to announce that our Intersex Peer Support Group has launched. This is the first of its kind in Ireland, and we’re honoured to offer a safe space for intersex people to share their experiences and receive support. But that’s not all—there are more peer support groups on the way! Over the next few months, we’ll be launching groups for Young Adults, Queer People of Colour, and LBTQ+ Women. We believe these spaces are vital for building community and offering care.
I also want to take a moment to highlight our new community casework service. Since its launch, this service has been providing life saving one-on-one support, helping people overcome injustice and access the services they need to thrive. If you or someone you know needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us—we’re here to help. You can learn more at outhouse.ie/community-casework.
We’re also looking forward to welcoming some new team members very soon. It’s an exciting time for the centre, and we can’t wait for you to meet them!
Lastly, I want to mention a very special project that we’re working on—Arthouse, our annual charity art auction. This year’s auction takes place on November 9th and 10th. We already have some amazing artists submitting works including Maser, Yoko Akino, and Hazel Coonagh, and it’s all in service of building a stronger, more inclusive community. So if you are into art, now is the time to register to bid at www.outhouse.ie/arthouse
None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of people like you. If you’d like to support the centre, whether it’s by bidding and buying in Arthouse, calling into your community café to buy a coffee, or becoming a regular monthly donor, every bit helps us continue our work. Thank you for standing with us. Together, we’re creating a world where everyone is accepted and celebrated for who they are.
