Culture Night at Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre
Friday 18 September 2026, 5pm – 11pm
Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre presents an evening exploring the many ways LGBTQ+ people make themselves heard. Through a programme of art, performance, storytelling, and participatory experiences, visitors are invited to explore the voices, histories, and creative expression that continue to shape queer lives.
Throughout the building, artists, community members, and audiences will come together to reflect on identity, resilience, joy, and the power of collective memory. Whether quiet, joyful, provocative, or defiant, each encounter offers a reminder that queer culture has never been silent and continues to evolve through the people who create it.
SPEAK
Unrecorded
Red Room | From 6pm
An intimate evening of live storytelling celebrating the breadth and diversity of LGBTQ+ experiences.
Throughout the evening, invited storytellers will share personal stories, memories, experiences, and reflections, offering audiences the opportunity to encounter perspectives that are too often overlooked or unheard.
A new story will begin every half hour from 6pm, allowing visitors to drop in for a single story or stay for the evening.
This event will be accompanied by an Irish Sign Language (ISL) interpreter.

READ
Trace a history of queer voices that have been censored, challenged, restricted, or deliberately erased, and the many ways those voices have survived.
Delve into moments from around the world when LGBTQ+ books, stories, archives, and cultural expression came under pressure, from historic censorship to contemporary challenges to queer books in libraries.
Visitors can then explore Outhouse’s LGBTQ+ Library, with a selection of books specially highlighted throughout the space. A mystery book stall will also invite visitors to discover a new queer voice, with books available for just €5 in support of Outhouse.

WRITE
Letters to a Stranger
Theatre | From 5pm
What would you say to someone you’ve never met? What might a stranger have to say to you?
Letters to a Stranger invites visitors to take part in a simple exchange between people who may never meet. Write a letter to a stranger, leave it behind, and take one written by someone else. The letters might offer a thought, a memory, a piece of advice, or simply a few words intended for whoever happens to find them.
The installation offers a chance to slow down, write something for someone you don’t know, and discover the words of someone who has chosen to leave something for you.

LISTEN
Skin to Skin Talks
Theatre | From 5pm
A short film by visual artist and LGBTQ+ activist Pradeep Mahadeshwar, Skin to Skin Talks explores alienation, otherness, and sexual racism through abstract imagery, spoken prose, and sensation. Drawing on Mahadeshwar’s experiences as a queer person of colour and migrant in Ireland, the film reflects on the intersections of race, sexuality, belonging, and exclusion.
12 minutes | Film plays on a continuous loop
