Feeling safe and empowered is a right we all deserve. Our five-week self-defence course is designed to give LGBTQ+ people the tools and skills to feel more confident in protecting themselves.
This course is open to all, regardless of fitness level or previous experience, and will provide you with practical techniques to help navigate potential safety concerns.
Our experienced instructor, Declan Kidd, has years of training in martial arts and self-defence, with a special focus on inclusive, trauma-sensitive methods. Declan is passionate about creating a supportive environment where everyone can learn at their own pace.
Course Details:
- Dates: Thursdays, 4th September – 2nd October
- Time: 5:30pm – 6:30pm
- Location: Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, 105 Capel Street
- Cost: €25 for the full course (5 sessions)
Each week focuses on building new skills:
- Week 1 – 4th Sept: Basic strikes and targets
- Week 2 – 11th Sept: Defending against grabs
- Week 3 – 18th Sept: Defending against strikes
- Week 4 – 25th Sept:: Defending against holds and chokes
- Week 5 – 2nd Oct: Situational awareness (prevention), improvised weapons, ground fighting, and defence against multiple attackers
