Solax back on the 13th of June for Pride Month with a raw, sweaty, deeply political and resistant movement in Brazil and Palestine.
Solax is showcasing This is Ballroom (SALÃO DE BAILE Dir. Juru and Vitã, 2024 | 1h32min), a vibrant and urgent film about Brazil’s queer nightlife, where movement becomes protest and community becomes survival. Set in Rio and its outskirts, the film follows LGBTQ+ youth of colour as they reclaim and reinvent Ballroom culture on their terms, 50 years after its birth in New York…. Rio is burning!
Opening with Palestine Underground, it follows a week in the lives of these artists and friends in the lead-up to the first Boiler Room in Ramallah, six years ago. A part of Contemporary Scenes, uncovering underground collectives, artists and subcultures from across the world.
Doors open at 6:50pm
