People in communities across Ireland are finding themselves in dire situations. Unaffordable bills, skyrocketing rents and long waiting lists for public services which should be free at the point of use. Communities have been abandoned by the government irrespective of race or nationality. Government policy has caused the housing crisis, cost of living crises and a breakdown of our health service, not the presence of ethnic minorities and refugees.
The deliberate scapegoating of minorities by the far right is a vicious and racist tactic used to play on people’s fears and spread division within our diverse communities. Rather than challenging the government which caused these problems, they are terrifying ordinary people in their homes. Racism is being used as a wedge to divide working class communities.
We are asking family, friends, communities, clubs, services and progressive groups to come together for a peaceful march to support and show your solidarity to all people across Ireland who feel that they have been marginalised, discriminated against or let down by the state. It is time we show the state how much power we hold.
The terrorising of refugees and asylum-seeking communities and other members of working class communities have no place in our society. Let’s show we have a shared aim where people in Ireland can live free from harassment, intimidation and discrimination.
Our march will represent the majority of people in Ireland who will not be intimidated into silence. It is time to show who we are and what we stand for! We must stand together, support each other and use this strength to create real and sustainable change for all people in Ireland. We will march to celebrate the rich diversity of Ireland to demand real change and to continue to build a country that is grounded in a shared vision of respect and equality.
